Week # 04

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT LIFE CYCLE APPROACHES

There are four approaches of the life cycle which are as follows
  • Evaluating the existing infrastructure
  • Role of strategic planning
  • Capturing Knowledge
  • The role of rapid prototyping
EVALUATING THE EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE

When ever a knowledge management system is developed the only reason behind it is to improve the performance of the employees who are working in the organization , by doing this the whole organization will get benefit from it.When a new infrastructure is developed the previous one is evaluated so that a perception can be given  to the employees working in that organization is that thing were not out of control.

System For Justification : There are some questions which are to be answered in it like is this knowledge going to work through out even if it is transferred, in order to solve the problem do we need proper experience, will it be able to find a champion.

Feasibility Study : In this we will make a report which will answer problems like , is this project be completed in the time given , will it be affordable, what will be the cost of the system.

User Support : When a system is developed it is for the users so fem question arises like do the users know about this system , if yes the how did the perceived it , what is going to be the ratio of involvement between user and system , will it require user training , in order to make it operational will it require support.

ROLE OF STRATEGIC PLANNING

In order to make the organization successful , it must develop a strategic plan following ares are to be kept in mind : vision , resources , culture.

CAPTURING KNOWLEDGE

In order to solve a problem knowledge is to be captured and then it should be analysed.we get knowledge from tacit, explicit or interviews.Data mining is also useful as the analyse the data and come out with new finding.

THE ROLE OF RAPID PROTOTYPING

A prototype is basically a model or a dummy of the project which is to be developed. We do prototyping so that we can give a idea to the user that the final product is going to look something like this model and if he likes it then the project as a whole is developed.
Creating the blueprint of the knowledge management system can be counted as prototyping.

When testing is done of knowledge management system two things are included in it one is validation and the second is verification.
In Implementing the system we will keep following factors in mind which are as follows.
Quality assurance , Training the users , Managing change.

Week # 03

KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM LIFE CYCLE

In order to build knowledge management system there are multiple challenges which have to be faced. First one is to change the culture of the organization , changing the culture means that we have to change the thinking of the people who are working in that organization. Many people avoid sharing knowledge and this as to change also , make sure that people share their knowledge with other members of the organization.Know ones you have knowledge you have to assess that knowledge , by assessing you will be able to find out the worth of that knowledge across the organization.Lastly you have to process that knowledge and distribute it in organization in the form of documents. When the knowledge is implemented the organization must be ready to change, learn and innovate. The meaning must be extracted from the knowledge as an impact on organization can occur as without meaning there will be no change.

There are two life cycle one is conventional life cycle and the other is knowledge management life cycle. The difference is that conventional is process driven where as knowledge management is result oriented. The knowledge management system as stages.

The first stage is evaluate exsisting infrastructure in this developers must consider vision, culture and resources.

The second is to form a knowledge management team. Identify the stakeholders, the success of team will be depended upon the capabilities of the member, leadership, motivation etc.

The third is knowledge capture the developers will try to capture knowledge from the experts.knowledge can tacit and explicit.

The fourth stage is design the knowledge management blueprint. In order to do that developers must first finalize the scope, decide system components, develop the key layers.

The fifth stage is to test the knowledge system it is done by verification and validation.

After the testing is done sixth stage occurs which is of implementation in implementation quality assurance is to be kept in mind.Ones the system is implemented the developers have to  mange the changes.

WEEK # 02

UNDERSTANDING KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge is a mixture of facts, procedural rules and heuristics.Facts are generally statements which states truth, for example "all humans are mortal". Procedural rules are a sequence of action where as heuristic is based on experience which we gather through are lifetime for example "if I study hard I will get good marks".There is another thing called Intelligence it is the ability to apply appropriate knowledge. Memory is past events which have gone through such as school time , an event etc memory can be called according to will. Cognitive psychology is the study of mental processes.
Data is raw facts about something , when we process that data it is called information because we have given some meaning to it. after giving meaning to a raw fact when we understand that information then it is classified as knowledge.
There are two perspectives of knowledge Subjective and Objective. In subjective reality is basically created when we interact with other individuals , it is an ongoing processes. In objective the reality is not dependent on human perceptions and it can be structures in category and concepts.
There are different types of knowledge which are as follows
  • Procedural Knowledge : This knowledge is based on known facts and it can be explained to someone through steps.
  • Declarative Knowledge : This Knowledge is based on belief but don't have practical understanding.
  • Tacit Knowledge: This knowledge is based on guesses , vision it is difficult to share as well as make some one understand.
  • Explicit Knowledge : This Knowledge is based on  word and numbers.
There is also general and specific knowledge. General knowledge is in the brains of almost every one and it can be passed to anyone, where as specific knowledge is not possessed by everyone but by a limited number of individual.

WEEK # 1

INTRODUCTION TO KNOWLEDGE BASE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM

How knowledge is created is important for us to understand , the first thing is data , it is raw facts it can be of anything. know that data is processed in our brains or computer , ones it is processed it is called information. we call it information as we have given it some meaning. After this when we understand that information it is classified as knowledge.
The motivation behind knowledge management system is economic reliance. As we know the countries which have strong economy , better technology and advancement in other fields , it is only because of knowledge. If we look at the atlas we can see that the countries which were nothing a  fifty years back , know are the leading trend setters. The only thing which they adopted is knowledge.
Knowledge base is a system which uses knowledge to solve problems. In knowledge management system we gather, capture knowledge then pass it to the organisation to achieve a goal.In organisational knowledge the individuals are very important source. In other words we can also say that in knowledge base management system we try to gather, learn, understand knowledge for the enhancement or betterment of the organisation.all this is done so that we can pursue the organisation goal.
Another definition of knowledge base management system is that it is a tool through which we contribute to the promotion of core knowledge. We gather , update and also distribute knowledge for the survival of organisation.Know after understanding knowledge management system a question arises in our mind ,that is knowledge management for everyone?....the answer is yes because knowledge management is a mixture of latest technology and social mechanism and both these qualities are important for an organisation to grow.
